The Harrison GroupThe Houghton Highway Duplication Project

The Houghton Highway Duplication Project includes the construction of a new 2.7km long bridge linking Brighton to Clontarf across Bramble Bay.

The proposed three-lane bridge is located between the existing Hornibrook and Houghton Highway bridges. It incorporates variable speed and lane control ITS. A proposed shared pedestrian/cyclist facility connected to the bridge is also part of the works.

Approach intersection work will include bus priority 'queue jump' lanes. Concern for the environment is encapsulated in 'best practice' methodologies, as construction will be undertaken in the Moreton Bay Marine Park, adjacent to a fish habitat and the Ramsar Wetlands.

The heritage listed Hornibrook Highway bridge will have a representative section rebuilt for recreational access to the northern channel. The bridge's iconic entry portals will also be refurbished. A purpose built fishing platform, accessed from the shared pedestrian/cyclist facility attached to the new bridge, provides access to the southern channel.
